Heartland Film Festival will kick off its 2008 Festival with the North American premiere of Miramax Films’ The Boy in the Striped Pajamas. Special guests scheduled to attend this event include director/writer Mark Herman, author John Boyne and actor David Thewlis (Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban). After the screening, there will be a question and answer session with the filmmakers.

The Boy in the Striped Pajamas is a fictional story told through the lens of an eight-year-old boy largely shielded from the reality of World War II. We witness a forbidden friendship that forms between Bruno, the son of Nazi commandant, and Shmuel, a Jewish boy held captive in a concentration camp. Though the two are separated physically by a barbed wire fence, their lives become inescapably intertwined. The film is rated PG-13 for some mature thematic material involving the Holocaust.
